Port Workers from FEPA Join the Strike and Confirm Cessation of Activities in All Ports in Support of the CGT

The Federación de Estibadores Portuarios Argentinos (FEPA) announced its adherence to the national strike called by the CGT amid the debate on the labor reform currently taking place in the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation. The decision was officially communicated by the General Secretary, Marcelo Osores, together with the National Secretariat, ratifying the organization’s support for the strategy defined by the labor confederation.

As reported, the measure will entail a total cessation of activities in all ports across the country. FEPA stated that it will ensure the effective implementation of the strike at every port terminal, in rejection of a reform that, according to their statement, “puts at risk collective agreements, working conditions, and stability in the activity.”

In parallel to the institutional statement, Marcelo Osores sent a letter addressed to the CGT Triumvirate in which he expressed, in the first person and on behalf of the national leadership, the full support of port workers for the plan of struggle. In the text, the leader reaffirmed the federation’s commitment and ratified the “national port strike.”

The organization noted that the Argentine port network will play a leading role in the day of struggle defined by the CGT, and that the stevedores will be “up to the task in this historic moment,” in a context of intense debate.

With this decision, FEPA formally joins the CGT’s strategy and anticipates a direct impact on national port operations.

FESIMAF Ratifies Its Adherence to the Strike and Calls a Press Conference
Maritime unions will present their position regarding the labor reform and the exclusion of the Merchant Marine from the Labor Contract Law.

The Federación Sindical Marítima y Fluvial (FESIMAF) announced that on Wednesday, February 18 at 1:30 p.m., it will hold a press conference at its headquarters at México 471, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The call takes place within the framework of the 48-hour strike scheduled for February 18 and 19 by the unions that make up the federation.

As they indicated in advance, the central focus of the meeting will be the rejection of the treatment of the labor reform promoted by the national government and, especially, the modification of article 1 of the bill, which excludes the Merchant Marine from the Labor Contract Law. The organization maintains that this measure represents a significant setback in labor rights for the maritime sector.
