Louis Dreyfus Inaugurated in Timbúes an Advanced Plant to Lead the Global Market for Aviation Biofuels

On Friday, the agroindustrial complex of Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) in Timbúes (Santa Fe province, Argentina) was the setting for a major milestone in the global oilseed industry.

The company officially inaugurated a new specialized crushing/milling line dedicated to processing high-oil-content seeds. This state-of-the-art facility adds capacity to handle up to 3,000 tons per day of crops such as camelina, carinata, canola, and sunflower (in addition to its established soybean processing).

The investment—reportedly around US$30 million—focuses on producing:

  • Meal destined for animal feed.
  • Oil as a key feedstock for advanced biofuels, particularly Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) —also known as renewable or sustainable aviation biofuels—and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oils (HVO).

This development positions Argentina (and LDC’s Timbúes complex on the Paraná River, north of Rosario) to play a leading role in supplying the growing international demand for low-carbon aviation fuels. These fuels help airlines meet energy transition and decarbonization commitments without competing directly with traditional food crops, as crops like camelina serve as rotational/winter options.

The inauguration aligns with LDC’s global strategy for product diversification, integration in the value chain, regenerative agriculture, and support for customers in the energy transition. It also coincides with broader momentum in the Argentine agroexport pole toward sustainable and advanced biofuels.

(Note: The event took place in late February 2026, with official announcements from LDC dating back to late January for the start of operations, followed by a formal inauguration ceremony attended by national and provincial oficials).
