Analysis of the Progress of Soybean Planting at the National Level
The soybean planting campaign for the 2025/26 cycle in Argentina is showing significant progress, with 36% of the national area already planted, according to the latest data released by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (Bolsa de Cereales de Buenos Aires). The month of December marks the start of late-season or second-crop soybean plantings, a crucial period that begins after the wheat harvest.
Production expectations for this campaign are favorable, even though a reduction in the total area dedicated to the crop is anticipated compared to the previous cycle. This optimism is strongly supported by one key factor: seed quality.
Soybean Seed Quality: A Cornerstone for Yield Performance
Encouraging news for the agricultural sector comes from Córdoba province, where the Córdoba Grain Exchange (BCCBA) has issued a technical report confirming the excellent quality of the available soybean seed. This finding is critical, as high-vigor seeds with strong germination power are essential for efficient and rapid crop establishment, which directly impacts final yields.
The BCCBA stressed the critical importance of evaluating seed potential before planting. This is because post-harvest storage can cause natural aging that drastically reduces both vigor and germination power (GP), negatively affecting field productivity.
Results of Germination Power Analysis in Córdoba
As part of its report, the Córdoba Grain Exchange conducted a thorough analysis of germination power results from soybean samples corresponding to the 2024/25 campaign, processed in its specialized laboratories. The findings are remarkably positive:
- 51% of the analyzed samples achieved an “excellent” quality rating, with germination power above 95%.
- 92% of the samples exceeded the minimum standard set by the National Seed Institute (INASE), which establishes a germination power of 80%.
- The overall average germination power of the analyzed seeds reached 93%, a figure that the BCCBA highlighted as evidence of the strong germination capacity of the seed available for planting.
These results suggest a solid foundation for the development of the campaign, provided that weather conditions—particularly rainfall and temperatures—remain favorable.
For Córdoba province, the Exchange projects a planted area that will exceed 4 million hectares, with the majority (62%) concentrated in late-planting windows, further underscoring the importance of seed quality for this segment of the campaign.
