The union representing customs workers has called for a 48-hour work stoppage this Tuesday and Wednesday across all customs offices in the country, citing what they describe as an “indifferent and intransigent” stance by the agency’s authorities, who have failed to agree on a salary adjustment with the union sector.
It was also resolved to “maintain a permanent state of alert” to “assess the potential need to escalate the announced struggle plan.” The union clarified that all customs operations related to humanitarian reasons and/or public health are exempt from the strike measures.
The conflict between Supara and the authorities of the General Customs Directorate began to escalate earlier this year due to the lack of salary increases. It was expressed through a work stoppage on March 25 and 26, marking the start of a struggle plan that will now be intensified.
