The sunflower harvest continues to progress with positive results in various regions of the country, leading to an upward revision of the production forecast for this campaign. Despite rainfall that hindered machinery access in some areas, crop performance has exceeded expectations, with yields surpassing historical averages.
A survey conducted by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BCBA) indicates that the harvest has reached 75.6% of the suitable area, with a week-over-week progress of 16.7 percentage points. The regions of southern Córdoba, Núcleo Sur, and San Luis have shown outstanding yields, exceeding historical benchmarks from the past 10 and 5 years. In the southern agricultural area, which still has 30.6% of the area unharvested, yields are between 5% and 17% above the averages of recent campaigns.
Meanwhile, the northern La Pampa and western Buenos Aires regions have recorded exceptional figures, with 95% of the area harvested, achieving the highest yield in the historical series of the BCBA’s Planting Analysis Platform (PAS). Crop conditions remained good despite moisture accumulation from storms, enabling swift progress for harvesters.
In this context, the sunflower production projection has been adjusted upward to 4.5 million tons, an increase of 200,000 tons compared to the previous estimate.
On the other hand, the corn harvest is advancing slowly due to recent rainfall, though operations are expected to resume in the coming days. Nationally, 20.3% of the area has been harvested, with an average yield of 83.7 quintals per hectare. For late-planted corn, conditions remain normal to excellent, although forecasted frosts could negatively impact yields.
Soybeans, meanwhile, continue in good condition. About 78% of second-crop soybeans are in normal to excellent condition, with 64% of plants in the grain-filling stage. As a result, the BCBA maintains its production forecast at 48.6 million tons.
