Molinos Agro S.A. and the Asociación de Cooperativas Argentinas (ACA) have announced an agreement to build and operate a new soybean crushing plant in Timbúes, Santa Fe province. The project will increase the agro-industrial company’s processing capacity by 50%.
The plant will be built on land owned by ACA and will have an installed capacity of 15,000 tons per day. In the first stage, Molinos Agro will operate 65% of that volume — equivalent to approximately 10,000 tons per day — which will be added to the 20,000 tons per day it currently processes at its industrial complex in San Lorenzo.
According to the company, the choice of the site is due to the operational advantages offered by the existing infrastructure, which includes a port on the Paraná River, grain unloading facilities, and availability of central services.
In this regard, they clarified that the initiative does not replace the expansion projects planned on Molinos Agro’s own land in Timbúes. Those spaces will remain available for future developments, while the current priority is to complete the joint investment with ACA.
A Project Driven by Favorable Outlook
The company highlighted that the decision to move forward with the new plant is linked to regulatory, commercial, and strategic factors that point to a favorable scenario for the sector.
Among them, it mentioned the national Government’s announcement of a progressive reduction in export duties on soybeans and their derivatives starting in January 2027. This measure is expected to stimulate greater planted area and, consequently, a larger supply of raw material.
Internationally, the company also noted growing demand for soybean-derived products. The sustained increase in global production of pork, poultry, and fish drives consumption of protein meals, while soybean oil continues to gain importance both in human food and in the production of renewable biofuels.
An Investment with Expansion Potential
Construction of the new plant is expected to take approximately three years and represents the first stage of a master development plan.
According to the plans, the site has enough space for future expansions that could include new crushing lines, a second dock on the Paraná River, increased storage capacity, expansion of the truck yard, and the addition of a second tipping platform module.
