The Timbúes ports (ports above San Lorenzo) achieved a dredging depth of 34 feet, ensuring operations during low water periods.

The measure was agreed upon between the National Secretariat of Transportation and the General Administration of Ports (AGP), as part of an amendment to the concession contract for the Main Navigation Channel. Since the waterway concession in the 1990s, this is the first time that the Timbúes ports have been included in the terms.

This ensures the necessary draft to operate during periods of low river levels, such as the one occurring this season. Since the waterway concession in the 1990s, this is the first time that the Timbúes ports have been included in the terms.

The measure aims to create a more flexible and simplified framework, in line with the temporary management needs of the country’s main foreign trade route.

“Having a new contract design aims to streamline administrative processes and establish clear foundations for modernization and technological improvement in signaling, planning, and executing dredging and redredging works, bathymetry, and hydrometric recording,” the AGP stated.

Additionally, adjustments were made to the sections dividing the channel, organizing it more efficiently and appropriately for navigation, and correcting inconsistencies.

In this way, the needs raised by the agro-exporting sector of Greater Rosario were taken into account, and section 1.3 (from kilometer 460 to kilometer 470) was extended to include the port terminals in the Timbúes area, which had previously been at a disadvantage.

Moreover, La Plata anchorage was added to section 1.2, ensuring equal competition for the ports of the Río de la Plata.

Within this framework, there is the possibility of processing proposals for deeper dredging or wider navigable margins, with the aim of optimizing navigability conditions until the bidding process ordered by decree 709/2024 is awarded.
